Spectral energy distributions of FR I nuclei and the FR I / BL Lac unifying model

چکیده

We consider archival ROSAT and Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations of five FR I radio galaxies and isolate their nuclear emission from that of the host galaxy. This enable us to determine the Spectral Energy Distributions (SED) of their nuclei spanning from the radio to the X–ray band. They cannot be described as single power–laws but require the presence of an emission peak located between the IR and soft X-ray band. We found consistency between the SED peak position and the values of the broad band spectral indices of radio galaxies with those of BL Lac, once the effects of beaming are properly taken into account. FR I SED are thus qualitatively similar to those of BL Lacs supporting the identification of FR I sources as their misoriented counterparts. No dependence of the shape of the SED on the FR I orientation is found.

A multi - wavelength test of the FR I - BL Lac unifying model

We collect multi-wavelength measurements of the nuclear emission of 20 low luminosity FR I radio-galaxies to test the viability of the FR I-BL Lac unifying model. Although poorly sampled, the Spectral Energy Distributions (SED) of FR Is are consistent with the double peaked shape characteristic of BL Lacs. Furthermore while the distribution of the FR Is in the broad-band spectral index planes s...

On the Bl Lacertae Objects/radio Quasars and the Fri/ii Dichotomy

In the frame of unification schemes for radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs), FR I radio galaxies are believed to be BL Lacertae (BL Lac) objects with the relativistic jet misaligned to our line of sight, and FR II radio galaxies correspond to misaligned radio quasars. The Ledlow-Owen dividing line for FR I/FR II dichotomy in the optical absolute magnitude of host galaxy–radio luminosity (M...

The Chandra view of the 3 C / FR I sample of low luminosity radio - galaxies

We present results from Chandra observations of the 3C/FR I sample of low luminosity radio-galaxies. We detected a power-law nuclear component in 12 objects out of the 18 with available data. In 4 galaxies we detected nuclear X-ray absorption at a level of NH ∼ (0.2−6)×10 22 cm. X-ray absorbed sources are associated with the presence of highly inclined dusty disks (or dust filaments projected o...

Micron Observations of Nearby 3 Crr Radio Galaxies

We present submillimeter continuum observations at 870 microns of the cores of low redshift 3CRR radio galaxies, observed at the Heinrich Hertz Submillimeter Telescope. The cores are nearly flat spectrum between the radio and submillimeter which implies that the submillimeter continuum is likely to be synchrotron emission and not thermal emission from dust. The emitted power from nuclei detecte...

The HST survey of the B 2 sample of radio - galaxies : optical nuclei and the FR I / BL Lac unified scheme ⋆

We examine the optical properties of the nuclei of low luminosity radio-galaxies using snapshot HST images of the B2 sample. In agreement with the results obtained from the analysis of the brighter 3C/FR I sample, we find a correlation between fluxes (and luminosities) of the optical and radio cores. This provides further support for the interpretation that the optical nuclear emission in FR I ...
